“2 days back in UK freezing temps and we are already contemplating a return to the warmth, peace and tranquility of Villa Madera. The owners are as welcoming as the property and are happy to provide all the information required for an easy laid back vacation. We can thoroughly recommend this Spanish style "home from home" only a short drive from all major beaches, beauty spots and attractions yet quietly situated and complimented with amazing views.
Well done Lawrence and Cherrill.
"We will be back"”

Owner's response: Not the best of Lanzarote weather for your holiday but we did try to make up for it with advice and information about "things to do....places to go" when beaches unfriendly. Promise for your next visit "things will be better"weatherwise. Your promise to return NOT an idle "threat" either ? got you BOOKED for a return this summer ......with friends. Thanks for your company ....delightful Lawrence&Cherrill x

“You will find that this is the second review under this name (Please read) that we have left on Villa Madera, we will be visiting next year so that says it all. A comfortable happy place to stay with considerate and helpful host and Lottie (the dog) + cats. It is peaceful and quiet so that relaxation and a general unwinding it the order of the day. You will enjoy.”

Owner's response: TWO x 5* ratings AND a booking for 2013 confirmed in Jan 2012..???? It doesn't get better than this and CHERRILL (!) is particularly grateful. Appreciation of all her hard work to keep VM "front and centre" for ALL visitors is most gratifying. Thank you both from "The Man - age - ment" team

“I've now lost count of how many times we've visited Villa Madera which I'm campaigning Lawrence to rename as the 'oasis of peace and tranquility'. Arriving as usual completely stressed, the remarkably comfortable massive bed produces a great nights sleep. I'm convinced there is a tranquiliser in the air at Lanzarote!!!! Unbelievably Lawrence found yet another new local restaurant to visit and this was his best recommendation yet (awaiting him beating his personal best and rising to the challenge) - great food, great price and within a few minutes drive from the villa. The whole experience, as ever despite this being our 4th visit this year, was simply 'perfick' . See you and Cherrill in May xx”

Owner's response: Despite a Lanzarote "chilly nights" welcome back ...as always you stick to the positives which makes a personal ( "The man-age-ment" ) warm welcome so easy. It must be said we constantly strive to give regular visitors the VERY best that Lanzarote can offer .....particularly in terms of that most important item.......... "value for money" !! Sadly there are tourist traps aplenty and a "word from the wise" ( modestly THAT'S US) when requested .....is a free and we hope experienced service. See you in May (can't wait!) xxxx

16th January 2012 by Jan and Neil (STAYED IN DECEMBER 2011)

“Hi, Absolutely lovely clean comfortably villa with fantastic views. Very relaxing and total chill-out which is exactly what we needed. Outside area is fantastic for having the odd evening in, infact so nice we didn't want to go out!!!! Lawrence and Cheryl very acomodating and their recommendations were all brilliant. Only down side was the cold pool but it was December!!! Thanks once again! Big Hug to Henry!!! X”

Owner's response: Thank you both for this and we totally respect your 4* rating whilst acknowledging pool comments as totally justified. The subject is so arguementative as to be the basis of an article by Espana Breaks. Indeed as a result we have updated our policy on a "fair to all" basis. NOT EASY !! some will want MORE and be prepared to pay for it and some LESS and be offered a discount. ALL will be on an individual requirement. We are obviously delighted with the other kind words which are always a boost to our egos Our best wishes and thanks for such honest comments Lawrence & Cherrill

2nd January 2012 by Mary (STAYED IN DECEMBER 2011)

“We absolutely loved this villa. It is true that you need a car but then I think that a car is essential to see the truly beautiful Lanzarote wherever you stay and the villa is not remote …just beautifully quiet and yet accessible to the sea and costas.

The accommodation is clean, well designed and comfortable. The owners are available to help you if or when you need it but also respect your privacy.

We have slept so well here and have loved it so much that we are making our fourth visit! The internet access is reliable. Villa Madera is excellent value for money, has amazing views and the outside lounge is just what you need……add to this a sparkling swimming pools and lots of interesting spots to sunbathe or shelter from the sun…100% recommend.”

Owner's response: Thank you both for such an informative review . Being professional hoteliers yourselves we take great pride in your 5 * rating. Perhaps even more gratifying ? Your planned THREE week return next year ( your booking confirmed) You know of course we would be delighted with your company N E time.......... best to both from "The Man - age - ment

17th November 2011 by Mirpenn (STAYED IN NOVEMBER 2011)

“This is our second visit to Villa Madera and we have to thoroughly recommend it. The villa is very well furnished, the beds comfortable and plenty of hot water and bathrooms throughout.
The only downside is the pool is a little bit cold when the outside temperature is not hot and a not a totally cloudless sky. We had a particularly biting north wind for a few days so this did make it chilly but is not relection on the owners obviously.
Lawrence and Cherril the owners are so accomodating, friendly and helpful plus very generous with bottles of wine and an excellent welcome pack and are only too willing to make your stay more enjoyable. Time and time again regular returners to Villa Madera are testament to its quality. Definately try it you will not be disappointed.”

Owner's response: Dear Jackie and Bob. We both feel your comments ARE MORE THAN KIND.!! Despite the poor weather and a faulty pool heater (now repaired) which must have affected the TOTAL satisfaction of your stay (?) Nevertheless your natural "good grace" shines through in the above comments. I have determined to move a little closer to GOD to encourage that for your next visit...........NOTHING will be left to chance. I should mention pubicly your generousity of spirit was equally matched by your practical "generousity" of a wonderful treat for dinner on your last night. We look forward to the opportunity of reciprocating......and the "Suner da bet-ter" fond thoughts to you both Lawrence and Cherrill ( perhaps for your stay "The MISman - age - ment )

21st September 2011 by Jane and Neil, Cheshire (STAYED IN AUGUST 2011)

“Another wonderful stay at VM... What can I say that hasn't already been said! Just don't take our word for it, see for yourselves.....that's if you can find any dates still available! Trust me you wont be disappointed...I'm already plotting my return!
As always, with each return visit, there are new additions at the Villa...a couple of new sunbeds sit on the elevated patio area, which has been astro turfed to beautiful effect! The unbreakable glasses are a great innovation too, just right for drinks around the pool...and the pool, with the extra heating, is warm enough even for me!
Lawrence and Cherrill are fabulous hosts and yet again, introduced us to another wonderful place to sit, eat and watch the world go by, this time along the front in Playa Honda.... Other recommendations...La Cabana in Macher and for a full English try Azure down at the Marina in Puerto Calero. One of our firm favourites has got to be Salmarina in Playa Quemada, fantastic food in a stunning location.
Heartfelt thanks L&C for taking such good care of VM and us, and for making every stay special! xx”

Owner's response: Knowing of your really bad experiences at other villas in the past,........some sadly on this and similar web sites...... your comments are not only most kind but submitted from your wealth of experience. Constantly upgrading VM, is as you know, a labour not only of love for us but to keep it fresh for our many (MANY!!!) returning visitors. Thanks also for including other recommendations.....all most helpful for new visitors. See you soon but not before March 2012 ....WE ARE FULLY BOOKED .....warmest regards from L&C ...The Man-age-ment

14th September 2011 by T & J (STAYED IN MARCH 2011)

“Well, what can we say. From receiving the first email from the “man-age-ment” we knew we were in for a real treat at Villa Madera. Truth is we thought, what on earth have we done and who on earth were we going to meet when we got there!!! This was our very first time booking a private Villa. We arrived on a sunny Thursday afternoon, we had seen the pictures on the website but nothing could’ve prepared us for the stunner that is Villa Madera. The gardens and grounds are so beautiful and well kept. The pool was just perfect with it’s unique heating system. The outside lounge overlooking the pool was so peaceful and tranquil, perfect for those nights under the stars with a cheeky glass of plonk. Inside VM there is everything you could wish for and more. The beds are soooo comfy with high quality bedding and stylish furnishings. You can tell VM is well looked after and kept spotlessly clean. You really need a car to get out and about but VM is in the perfect location for all the sights Lanzarote has to offer......erm, I think I have covered everything.....hang on, I’ve forgotten the most important part of VM.....the owners....(man-age-ment).....Lawrence and Cherrill.......two of the most genuine, sincere, caring, downright lovely people we have ever met. They really do make VM what it is and will be for many years to come. If you want them, they are there, if not, they are not. We were made so welcome from the outset, nothing was too much trouble.
We would like to say the biggest thank you to both of you for making our Holiday so special, we will definitely be returning to Villa Madera....Our 2nd home in the sun. Big hugs and kisses to Cherrill, Lawrence we are not required to touch you but here’s one for you too xx

P.S love to Henry and Lottie too

P.P.S Sorry for the late review but it has only taken us till now to get over leaving VM

If you are wanting something unique, stylish and special. Book Villa Madera”

Owner's response: "Oh ! ...You are awful ? ....but we like you !!. We can only say reviews such as this serve to make (being both hosts AND man-age-ment), everything worth while. You 2 as first time visitors.??...... we were equally unprepared and we both sighed...... me in "despair" and Cherrill "swooning"...... when a couple of hulking great guys walked into VM who could easily have made the ground tremble and we had major concerns for our furniture being able to cope. But no ! ...It seemed VM fitted you like a glove and your very personal responses, care plus your natural generousity helped make your visit amongst the most memorable ever.....(AND we've done a few) "Welcome back" ANYTIME ...it could never be too soon.
Best wishes in your new home from the man-age-ment (otherwise "The untouchables".....well ME anyway !!)

25th July 2011 by Graham & Bev Winchester (STAYED IN JULY 2011)

“Returned after a three year absence and quickly realised the break was far too long! Our hosts were exactly as we remembered them; grumpy and contentious...... Whoops, I should of course report that Lawrence and Cherrill gave us a fantastic welcome back and had even made improvements to Villa Madera. Thus proving that it is possible to push the boundaries of perfection still further. Even though we felt (and looked) much older since our last visit, it was extremely frustrating to find the ravages of time (or torment of returning guests like us) had not touched L & C. I now truly believe that the air in LZ must hold the answer to eternal youth!!
Hence we took the only logical course of action... we booked another stay later this year.”

Owner's response: Thanking you both for this review. GB
BTW ....Grumby and contentious is the new "grin and bear it" don'cha know ? Thank you for noticing VM's ongoing improvements. Currently STILL updating several items (such luxuries) .....ready for your Autumn return (THE best time). We always want returning guests to feel "YOUR comfort is OUR first priority" .......hence our 80% "revisit" record (even with a three year gap" !!!!!) await breathlessly your Oct return (puff pant)

“here our comments from a "not english" point of view, after staying in June 2011: the positon of the villa on the island is ideal to reach the attractions and beaches. the view from the balconies is very nice. the villa is very nice decorated and is complete with all accessories. the pool is very nice. the owners are very friendly. Ideal for everyone who wants to experience something original and stylish.
Signed: Andrea (40, italian) Edina (39, bosnish), Leon and Emilia (13 and 11, german).”

Owner's response: Our first visitors from BOSNIA/ITALIA and what a joy it was. Rarely have we been more captivated by a family unit. Thank you for the "shortened version" of the wonderful (and personal !!) comments left in our guest book. We were most impressed by the variety of languages spoken by you all. Bit betterer than the "Inglish wot we speke" Always an open door for you.
Anytime !!.......... Cherrill x for Lawrence (golfing somewhere )

22nd May 2011 by Elaine, Worsley (STAYED IN MAY 2011)

“This was our "umpteenth" visit to Villa Madera and everything about our holiday was perfect, including the weather and daily visits from Henry and Lottie. Our hosts Lawrence and Cherill, went above and beyond our expectations to ensure our 20th wedding anniversary celebrations didn't go unnoticed - a sincere thank you to you both. We now have another 2 visits booked for this year and to avoid any disappointment, have aleady booked for 2012. Roll on September when we have Roberts "49th" (!) birthday to celebrate. Bye for now x”

Owner's response: Please forgive "tardy" response to your LATEST review E&R. Your regular (4x year) visits make you truly one of the family and Rob's 49th noted.
BTW we have noted his "big 50" "just in case"
love to both from both L&C x

11th March 2011 by Lou and Andy ..... East Anglia (STAYED IN FEBRUARY 2011)

“We were the first to review Villa Madera way back in summer 2009 and have returned 3 times with our "children".
One benefit of seeing them grown up is we were able, for the first time to stay at VM ...just us two.
10 days of bliss. The weather might have been better but we didn't really care. We just laid back in the villa or indeed in the pool and enjoyed REAL peace and quiet. As usual Lawrence and Cherrill were just in the background doing what they do best.....keeping in the background !! Somehow always on hand for those little extras that make a stay in their villa "simply the best". the reviews on line (30+ now) are but a tiny fraction of the praise in their guest book. Every word a tribute to Villa Madera and "The Man-age-ment" Thank you both ..see you in the Autumn”

Owner's response: Cherrill and I both commented how much more you were relaxed this time out .......no need to wonder why ???? Can only suggest you enjoy your break opportunities to the full. Just a few years before you are exposed to the rigors of being Grandparents !!!!!
Guarantee the weather for your next visit (Sept) will be up to your requirements.....and indeed ours.
Our best wishes to the "children" like you they will always be welcome
BFN Cherrill for Lawrence ......painting himself as usual with splashes landing on the house !!!

2nd March 2011 by Raquel Welch Palm Springs LA (STAYED IN FEBRUARY 2011)

“Our first time visit to Lanzarote and first time at Villa Madera. Not disappointed with either...of course the " wall to wall " sunshine helped, plus the great tips from owners Lawrence & Cherrill. All put together made for a fantastic week away from the UK. We cannot wait to come back ... indeed plans in motion as I write .. and IF the man - age - ment will permit a revisit ??!!
Thanks for making us feel so welcome.....The sandwiches on our arrival and washing services included !
Wishing you both ...and VM ...a successful 2011. From our experiences you can only go from strength to strength. Looking forward to being a part of it again . Best wishes”

Owner's response: Well thank you "Raquel" although our sandwich welcome was hardly "Sunset Boulevard" LA. Regarding your intended return visit ...........please feel free to bring other celebrities next time and you can show them where you stayed ? "One Million Years BC" had nothing on VM.
Anyway no permissions necessary just hurry on back. Saludos Lawrence and Cherrill x

25th February 2011 by Frank (STAYED IN FEBRUARY 2011)

“There are already so many enthusiastic reviews – what's left to ad? Well, first of course: Its all true – Villa Madera is a very special place as Lawrence and Cherrill are very special hosts. The property is so cozy and charming that you feel at home right away. We liked it so much that we spontaneously extended our stay, which is usually an unlikely option given the booking rate of the villa ...
What we liked most, besides the outstanding hospitality and helpfulness of the hosts, was the atmosphere of the place. You feel that it was originally designed and build to live in it and not just rent it out: the Manrique-style elements, all the nice details in and around the house, the view, the outside area with its magic touch especially at night.
In the "review tips" here it says: "Be balanced, explain the good and bad points fully." Yes, sure, only: There is no bad point – besides: departure day comes at Villa Madera too.
All the best from Hamburg. We'll be back. Frank, Bruntje & Nick”

Owner's response: Whilst visitors to our site are marveling at the quality of your much appreciated comments. I am speechless and the quality of your English....faultless ....from mee wot spekes and write flewent... a reel condiment thairfour ?? Our first visitors from the NORTH of Germany and among our very best and most welcome visitors. Please please hurry back ANYTIME L & C

22nd February 2011 by Puddicat - Doncaster (STAYED IN NOVEMBER 2010)

“Having just recovered from our depart in December I now feel able to write to you. Depression set in when I had to leave Henry and little Lotte. Hope you enjoyed your hols. This villa is very different from others in that it has an air of majic about its location. As per other reviewes it is comfortable and clean but it is that bit more than that. My hubby and I didnt want to come home but you were very unreasonable booking another party in but never mind I forgive you. We did pass by after leaving just to see if we could spot Henry but guess he was on his travels too. But thank you for letting us stay in your villa.”

Owner's response: Your belated review has made our day !! We knew you were not 'appy not being able to extend your stay because the guests following (most unreasonably) "insisted" on taking up residency. (And now here's the kicker) !! Then seemingly they were never home, according to reports. Spent their whole time exploring the "nooks and crannies" (of which there are hundreds) of our beautiful island.
Under the circumstances VM was therefore "NOT used and abused" ?......gotta good report nevertheless. Next time you book we will allow cut off date to be flexible ....so HURRY BACK.....soon BW Cherrill, Lawrence and "the King of cats" Henry

29th January 2011 by M & P Worcestershire. (STAYED IN JANUARY 2011)

“Our first time in VM and Lanzarote, had a good look round the island including the 'Costas', if you want privacy, peace and quite, good views, excellent accommodation, comfy beds with private pool stay here. You do need a car, but this gives access to the rest of the island. A wealth of information and a warm welcome will be available from the hosts who made us feel at home completely.
Were we happy (?) - returned to UK end of January 2011 having booked for next year - this is the ultimate recommendation.”

Owner's response: Although the generally accepted idea is that Villa Madera is being "reviewed" It is only fair to note that in return "The Man-age-ment" reviews ALL it's guests also ??? (scary?)
MOST become "Gold Star" (with benefits!?) eventually due to constant revisitng of VM............. HOWEVER !!.......... Your rebook before leaving coupled with your genuine warmth ( well you did have v.good weather!!) during your stay has elevated you to IMMEDIATE "GS" status. Hopefully we will meet B4 next January. Tanx for EVERYTHING and an affectionate "eve'ning all" . Lawrence & Cherrill x

15th January 2011 by Essi & Mikko (STAYED IN DECEMBER 2010)

“Villa Madera is a stunning place in a stunning location! It is a perfect spot both for exploring the island or just staying in by the pool. Everything is catered for and the villa is very well equipped. As echoed by many others, Lawrence and Cherrill are superbly helpful and really made the stay that much more special. Please note that the photos, as great as they are, don't do justice to the place. And Henry, he is a king among cats. Many thanks to you all, we hope to be back!”

Owner's response: Wow Mikko / Essi !!... A first review from FINLAND. Now THAT is "special" On behalf of the "Man-age-ment" please accept our thanks and next time temperatures approach MINUS 25C at home ? ...this is an open invitation to "hurry on down" to VM. Cherrill and I would be "over the moon" were you to visit again . Our affection and that from "the king of cats" for a really lovely couple .....purrrrrrrr ! xx

7th October 2010 by Sue and Simon (STAYED IN AUGUST 2010)

“Our EIGHTH visit to Lanzarote and third to Villa Madera. The mountains, sea and coast line views are second to none. Our first morning with a customary greeting from "Henry Puss" and after 3 visits first time meeting Cherrill !! ( we were getting suspicious about that ?) Still loads to do and following Villa Madera's Management constantly updated advice, still find "new events" to do. The Stratvs Bodega tour with snacks..... and visit to even "view" their absolutely stunning restaurant IS A MUST. Thank you Lawrence and Cherrill ..expect another invasion of Villa Madera. The most beautiful spot on your glorious island”

Owner's response: In the face of adversity you were absolute stars ! and cannot wait to make up for a couple of lapses ( which you kindly don't mention) Not so much by the man-age-ment in the office, as by God in his heaven. Thank you both for your wonderful company ......and patience ? Feel free to mount an invasion anytime

7th October 2010 by Nina Dave & Abby (STAYED IN AUGUST 2010)

“Hi Lawrence & Cherrill !! Boy did we miss you when holidaying in Spain the last 2 weeks in August ( same time as spent with you at VILLA MADERA last year) This time we hadn't a clue WHAT we were doing or WHERE we were going. CONSTANTLY we thought "where are the Villa Madera Man-age-ment team"? "Where are L & C when we need them"? We suffered loads of "rubbish meals" at rip off prices and purely by chance found only one decent restaurant for our whole stay in Denia. If anything made us appreciate the holiday we spent at Villa Madera with constant good advice from you two, it was the error of our ways staying in a world famous (Marriot) hotel. Your guests (old and new) really should appreciate the personal touches that count for EVERYTHING staying at your villa. They mean so much when on holiday. NOT a "mistaka to maka" TWICE !!”

Owner's response: Sad that although we feel truly "appreciated" !....nevertheless the price being an obviously second rate holiday for you when away from VM gives us no pleasure. Even worse is how much we missed you ALL. Never mind we will roll out red carpet for your next return L&C

7th September 2010 by Carol, Hertfordshire (STAYED IN AUGUST 2010)

“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Madera. We chose the property because it has everything we needed for our holiday: two double rooms, two en suite bathrooms, a heated pool, gorgeous views of the coastline and easy parking arrangements. But we got so much more than we bargained for: the bedrooms are spacious and stylish, with a balcony; there's a walk-in shower on the ground floor, just by the pool; a freezer to store our ice creams; a supermarket just a few minutes' drive away; giant inflatables to use in the water; a stack of DVDs and a large-screen TV. Most of all, we appreciated the warm welcome we received from our hosts, Lawrence and Cherrill, and their 'top tips' on where to eat and places to visit (we enjoyed a tour of the national park, a visit to the Green Caves, amazing views from the tip of the island and a colourful Sunday market). All in all, a great holiday!”

Owner's response: Cannot imagine why it has taken so long to respond Carol .....very remiss of the man-age-ment
Your kind itemisation of just about EVERYTHING good is very gratifying and we both thank you.
Hurry back , our door always open for ALL of you. tanx again Lawrence

31st July 2010 by M&M + 3 teenagers from Bucks (STAYED IN JULY 2010)

“Having experienced the World Cup celebrations in Madrid, (Phenomenal) we headed on down to Villa Madera in La Asomada. With the exception of a few windy days EVERYTHING over which Lawrence and Cherrill had control can be summed up as an unequivocal " PERFECT" We left after two weeks with a heavy heart......wanting a 3rd..at least. !!.. Teenagers are not always easy but with our hosts' incredible knowledge of Lanzarote, all of us found lots to enjoy. A piece of advice to all readers of this message. If you are unsure of "what to do" and "where to go" put your trust in Villa Madera's owners. Not only is the villa simply stunning, top to bottom, but the personal service ( on request or otherwise !! ) certainly made our holiday memorable. One highlight amongst many was our last night at the Argentinian restaurant in Pto Calero ( Lawrence has details)....out of this world food and service. Thank you "mein gastgeber" until we meet again”

Owner's response: In my Masters' absence and with "The Help" Pervy and Lurch currently on holiday...somewhere exotic no doubt? It has fallen to myself, VM's personal butler to respond on behalf of The Man-age-ment.
After many years of being taken for granted,as it were and with never a mention, what better opportunity to thank you for your kind words? We are all well aware that all former sycophantic reviews about my adopted home are FEAR based, with the real threat of the man-age-ment ignoring from any guest their pleadings and entreaties to be allowed to return. Your family will know it was MY ADVICE that ensured the success of your holiday. Regrettably I was unable to affect the windy days and concede the required influence upon a "higher authority" could only have come from Mr Lawrence personally.
Be assured I offer my total dedication WHENEVER you are permitted to return. I cherrish thoughts of all your kindness and until then remain your (everso) 'umble servant

Uriah ( "Heap" to you )

“Having holidayed on Lanzarote for nearly 20 years, we found Villa Madera around 4 years ago and since then, now visit it 2 or 3 times a year. The difference between this villa and others we have stayed at, is the attention to detail, high quality of the furnishings provided and constant upgrading of facilities by the wonderful hosts Lawrence and Cherrill, who ensure your stay is memorable for all of the right reasons. Villa Madera really is a wonderful oasis in which to relax and recover from the stresses of life in the UK. Thanks once again Lawrence and Cherrill and see you in September x”

Owner's response: Such a shame you were feeling "under the weather" for most of this visit Elaine but at least medical help was v. close to hand.....Most important when in a foreign country.? Anyway as usual OUR weather was it's usual "perfect" so that helped. For sure all will be back to normal for September !......BTW I have secured your 3 visits for next year "so dats good ' innit" ??
Best wishes to Rob AND all the family.
"Hasta la proxima ...baby" xx from The Man-age-ment (UnoHoo ? and HER too ! )

2nd June 2010 by Simon and Bernie, Bury (STAYED IN MAY 2010)

“I can't think of one bad thing to say about this place, with a car available the villa mixes a secluded location with access to the main island resorts.

The villa itself provides a good sized open plan kitchen/living room, with 2 large double ensuite bathrooms and a smaller single; all clean and airy with excellent views. The best part however is the outside living area, near the sun terrace which allows you to either shelter from the sun or spend the evening/night relaxing in the warm nights.

The hosts, Lawrence and Cherrill offer you privacy, whilst being available for advice and their hospitality; and it's obvious that they're keen on keeping the villa as modern and comfortable as possible.

We feel thoroughly relaxed after 10 wonderful days at the villa and would happily recommend it to anyone; would we not want to for fear of it being booked up when we next want to go!!!!

If you're lucky enough to go, ask for advice as to where to eat; you won't be disappointed as the hosts' knowledge of the island is fantastic.”

Owner's response: Thank you Simon...it was our pleasure to welcome your family to VM. It's true we do offer ALL SORTS of advice ....normally only when asked since we have NO wish to be considered "b...... know alls" Also glad you mention "privacy". Something EVERY visitor considers a priority and we go to great lengths to ensure ....as you acknowledged. Come back anytime but it will involve "forward planning" ....as you know ?! BW Cherrill x

“01.05.10 -08.05.10
Like the guests before us we were not sure if we would actually get there due to volcanic ash ...but happily we did! We got diverted from the route and Lawrence came and found us and herded us in - despite having a party of 130 just vacating the villa from a charity do....thanks again!
Lawrence set out his brief with a welcoming cup of coffee and with that we settled in and relaxed with full privacy as we were promised bar the occassional 4 legged visitor, which was lovely! The wine left in the fridge was splendid indeed and on visiting the recommended Bodega Uga restaurant we found our drinks bill covered by L & C plus a bottle of bubbly to take home....great!
We thought this restaurant highly over-rated due to every course showing no culinary skills at all, 1st course iberico jamon, 2nd course smoked salmon, 3rd course, tuna 4th course steak and chips, 5th course fruit salad. All nice enough but nothing you couldnt have put together at home out of some packets. However other recommendations la Emitra a local tapas bar (46 euros inc wine) and amura on the marina in puerto calero (88 euros) were out of this world. The latter is Michelen starred and when you eat there you really find out why. The one thing we would add to L & C's recommendations is that if you like a traditional english breakfast at all then pop to Puerto del carmen, although not as refined as other areas, it is still really nice and you can get a plethera of breakfast choices for half of what they charge at the marina and are equally as nice - some better. i.e. cafe mila around 20 euros for 2 breakfasts and coffee and pretty poor at that. In puerto del carmen this costs you around 8 - 10 euros and you get freshly squeezed orange juice thrown in!
Overall, truely fantastic location and views
Peace and tranquility
Help on hand - if and only if you want/need it
Well presented bedrooms with very comfy beds
Pool could do with being a little warmer and needs constant cleaning, but this is ok if you take you take your own 'to die for poolman' as I did!
Amongst our 'Top 10' villas and we've done a few!!!”

Owner's response: Thank you S & M. Cherrill and I were delighted with your professional comments above. As you know...... and quite rightly so.... we have no control over visitor reviews other than permitting them sight unseen. Your totally objective thoughts guided by an obvious wealth of experience enables us to feel more than satisfied that combined with our high occupancy stats....WE MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT !! Glad you enjoyed your 50th at the Amura and the bubbly on us was some small compensation for disappointment at the Bodega. Best wishes with your future reviews "The Man-age-ment"

“Lanzarote is a place of extremes, and Villa Madera is an extremely good place to stay when visiting Lanzarote. OK, corny, but it's hard to say something different when all the typical superlatives have been used again and again. As people who have used villas many times, we are always sceptical about reviews that make a property seem to good to be true, but our stay proved them all to be absolutely spot on.

Our trip was made more 'interesting' by the inability to return home because of the volcano ash stopping all air traffic. We need not have worried, we didn't even need to ask the question of "what to do", because Lawrence and Cherrill had already discussed it and told us that we were safe to stay whilst there was the air-traffic chaos, they even called the car rental company and informed them of our situation and removed that hassle as well.

The villa was a private, peaceful and restful place to stay. Your hosts are close by, so you're never far from assistance if you need it, but unless you seek them out, you don't know they are there. If they have to come to see you for whatever reason, they follow a strict privacy code and knock on your door to ensure your privacy.

The villa has comfy beds, fluffy towels, a choice of two en-suite bedrooms if you are travelling as a couple, a huge selection of DVD's if you want a night in, a great outdoor seating area with patio heater should it get cool, and the atmosphere around the pool at night is so tranquil, it's hard not to unwind. Also, Cherrill's artwork adorns the whole house and is a real credit to her talent as an artist.

During the day, take the time to admire the villa and it's construction. The style of the pool and the grounds are inspired by the works of César Manrique and is in keeping with the island and it's feel. The villa has been designed and built by the owners, and is a tribute to many years hard work.

If you get the opportunity, try dinner at Uga Bodega - not cheap, but the fish course is heavenly and the steak is mouth-wateringly good. Also, try lunch at the Stratvs vineyard, get a tour if you can because the architecture of the place is hugely impressive, and the wine and cheese tasting at the end of the tour is a real treat.

I'm sure we'll be back again - assuming we can find a free slot - currently the villa is booked solidly until November! We're confident, that our stay will be just as pleasurable as our first time.

A bit of advice however! Lawrence's early emails are pretty entertaining, give him as good as you get - he loves it.

Thanks again Cherrill and Lawrence.”

Owner's response: Since we are talking extremes " He-man & Yellin" ...........how about "extremely wonderful guests". YES the ash cloud did hang heavy over everyone for a while and you are amongst a few guests who would have coped so well ....and so generously !!!!. .....If ya gotta get stuck? Get stuckin wiv the bestest best people......... WHO incidentally took WONDERFUL care of VM during their extended and unscheduled stay .Gold Star thanks

“....We stayed last November and quite simply loved it!... What a wonderfully relaxing and restorative place Villa Madera is!...so much so, that we found ourselves back again on March 11th for one more blissful week!
It has everything you could wish for from a holiday and more... what do you get?...Great weather almost guaranteed, fine food... and the Villa, a little slice of luxury with views that take your breath away...
We shall be back in June.... and cant wait!... it truly is a special place.... Thanks sooo much Lawrence and Cherril... you really deserve all those 5*s!... x”

Owner's response: Oh !.... you do go on so it could be quite "inbareskin" if we didn´t just lap up kind words AND your company of course. Trying to complete more updates and improvements before your return in June. .......Assuming we can lock other visitors out and get on with some work .....not easy !!

“We normally holiday on the Gold Coast and whilst on an extended business trip to Europe we were recommended a break in the Canaries. We have been to Europe before and were very disappointed in our stay in Puerto Banus because of the utility quality of the apartment. We chose Lanzarote and the Villa Madera and what a pleasant surprise it was when we arrived. The sun shone from the moment we stepped off the plane till we boarded again a week later. The accommodation is better than you might expect, the beds in the two main bedrooms were very comfortable and large, more importantly the linen was crisp and smelled as fresh linen should. Beautiful soft towels and plenty of them. This fully equipped villa included a comprehensive quality DVD library and a large flat screen. Pool was perfect and the sunbathing areas were surrounded by garden. The owners who live very close by were not intrusive but provided recommendations and guidance to restaurants and beaches we would never have found. The car was essential and had been arranged by the owners which we collected and returned to the airport. All in all I would give Villa Madera five stars for location (nice and quiet yet a few minutes drive to the nearest beach). Six stars for the accommodation (genuine home from home) and seven stars for the owners, Lawrence and Cherril, whose hospitality and upkeep of the property keeping it looking like the brochure every day made our trip memorable enough to want to come back again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED LOCATION, both the Island and the Villa.
Gone now, but beautiful memories lingering forever.”

Owner's response: Gone indeed ?...but never forgotten. An absolute delight to have another family from "down under" ...and your little girl Lucy was a real delight. Chatty, funny and will no doubt grow into a stunner ....one day! You may regret your offer to come and stay with you ...already making plans...true!.
Thanks also for the meal at the Uga Bodega ....always special for every visitor. Hope now ALL your plans come to fruition. Good luck AND good health always .....from "the Man-age-ment"

“We had a wonderful week in Villa Madera, and can thoroughly recommend it to anyone considering a holiday on Lanzarote.

The house itself is extremely comfortable and has lots of character. The garden is beautiful when lit up at night, and is great for relaxing in. The location is ideal: peaceful but near all amenities, although you definitely need a car.

Lawrence and Cherrill are very welcoming and do their best in every way to ensure their guests have an enjoyable stay.

We had a really great holiday at Villa Madera!
We hadden een fantastische vakantie in Villa Madera: We kunnen deze vakantiewoning van harte aanbevelen!”

Owner's response: Thank you both so much for your review of VM and us two too.!!!
Your multi facet talents with just ONEor TWO of your other available languages ( I assume German and Dutch ??) spelling out your kind thoughts will prove to be a real bonus to new Euro enquiries . Invitation to return asap xxx from Lawrence & Cherrill
Enjoyed your company immensely and as you already know, you join our Gold Star Guest list

“We have just returned from our third trip to VM, and we plan to return in 2010. The house is extremely comfortable and beautifully maintained. Outside space is a mixture of shade and sunny spaces with ample room to eat, lounge or just sit and soak up the atmosphere.

We have enjoyed it's proximity to amenities, although car hire is a must. Lawrence put us in touch with a local company who have been very helpful. It would be easy to think it is all too good to be true, but at Villa Madera you really do get what it says - a place to relax, unwind in peace. Lawrence and Cherrill are excellent hosts, full of accurate recommendations and advice, or not depending on how their guests feel. They know when to be around and when to leave tired guests to recover from their journey. The availability chart speaks volumes, as though of us who have found VM recognise a good thing and book our return trips while we can!”

Owner's response: Knowing your exhausting work background J&C, we are in total admiration of your abilities and achievements. Your faith in us to provide you with all the privacy and quiet comfort you deserve.......and enjoy. ( as proven by a further 3 forward bookings in 2010) is very humbling for Cherrill and I. Always our pleasure and thank you for your kind words above xx Lawrence

“Whilst on holiday in Lanzarote we decided we wanted to extend our break and after surfing the internet we found Lanzarote Breaks. The site was excellent and Villa Madera appeared as a special offer due to a cancellation. The response from Lanzarote breaks and Lawrence at Villa Madera were excellent. We had spoken to Lawrence and arranged to view the villa with him within 24hrs of our enquiry. Needless to say the villa was stunning and the location breathtaking. We decide to stay!

The villa is very comfortable especially the outdoor lounge for watching the sunset or simply relaxing in the shade. The bed was dreamy, so comfortable and huge.

Lawrence and Cherrill are exceptional hosts. Nothing is too much trouble but they are not intrusive. They promote positive feedback and when I mentioned a dishwasher would be a welcome addition to the villa to Larwence,he took it on board, after only a little crying and as we left Lawrence and Cherrill were off to buy a diswasher!! A thoroughly enjoyable experience.”

Owner's response: Knowing you had found us via Lanzarote Breaks gave us some confidence in accepting a couple "tramping" around the Canary isles. Obviously you had fallen on hard times but we "took you in", not only literally but now it seems, from your kind review, "metaphorically" !!. Seemingly a good decision all round. Certainly one of our better ones. Thank you both so much for your positive suggestions,......... the dish washer is an obvious necessity for those such as you who like home cooking....... AND LOTS (and lots?) of it !! Enjoy the rest of your wanderings and PLEEEZ come back and invite us for dinner. The food we know will be the finest and "The Man-age-ment " will guarantee ..NO washing up !!

“Very happy with our accommodation and can happily assure people that reviews made are accurate....so nice, we have booked to come back. You must hire a car but then the driving was so easy with such excellent roads you would be mad not to. Everything was there that we needed, an excellent choice for a restful break..we actually slept really well. It offered us the opportunity to rest and relax and savour the beautiful views. The villa was very clean and welcoming. Shushhhhh! don't tell everyone.”

Owner's response: Having seen YOUR beautiful Hotel in Wales on the IT ! .....we feel your excellent comments are both friendly and professional. Was deeeeelighted to accept your 3 week return booking, PRIOR to departure. Your "tips for VM" will be included long before your return....promise ( all much appreciated). As for "Shushhhhh" ?? ...looking at our bookings for 2010 and beyond !.....seems the secret is "out there already" Loved your company, even more fun next time L&C

23rd December 2009 by Neil and Jane, Cheshire. (STAYED IN NOVEMBER 2009)

“Stayed from 26th November 2009, for 10 days of bliss!
A lovely villa with such attention to detail!... Spectacular views, lots of personal touches... we so enjoyed Cherrils art that hangs throughout the villa... Lawrence and Cherril have put a lot of time, erffort and love into Villa Madera and it shows!
We thoroughly enjoyed the ten days of peace and tranquiity we had, although it passed far too quickly....The weather was good, the food as always, fantastic!...Our personal favourites... Costa Azul, a seafood restaurant in ElGolfo, the drive there is a memorable experience just as the sun is setting, although the return journey in the dark is just a little 'edgy'!!... The Ermita and La Central in Tias, two excellent tapas bars with authentic food and geat ambience!.... and finally Uga Bodega, but only for those who dont mind not seeing a menu, or the prices for that matter!... but a truly memorable experience made all the better by the company of Lawrence and Cherril, our fabulous hosts!
I whole-heartedly recommend this villa to all who may be considering a holiday there... you wont be disappointed!
If I have to moan about something it would be the coldness of the heated pool!!... although I will concede that I feel the cold more than most... and I guess it was the end of November!!
Thanks again, your hospitality and of course, beautiful villa wont be forgotten in a hurry!.. We shall keep in touch...forever in my favourites!!
Kindest Regards Neil and Jane”

Owner's response: You will know by now Jane//Neil that we love all kind words and know yours are from the heart. However we cannot let the pool item pass with out comment......." Use the $%&^"+ pool cover, it does help keep it MUCH warmer. Otherwise you were both so fabulous we can forgive you of course.......see you again soon regards The Man-age-ment L & C xx

“Our first visit to Lanzarote and we couldn't have picked a more perfect place to stay. Away from it all yet never far away from anywhere and the views just can't be summed up in the pictures, you can spend all night on the balcony. Cracking pool and rooms with big comfy beds made for a very relaxing holiday (even with 2 young children!!!). But what topped it off for us is the hospitality provided by Lawrence and Cherrill from the warm welcome to the local knowledge which you just can't put a price on. Thank you for making our holiday one to remember.

See you again in the future.”

Owner's response: "You say the nicest things" TWICE ! Your comments in our guest book said it all and we are of course delighted. Then to repeat for public viewing particularly with personal comments is a real plus. Incidentally your children were a delight and cannot wait to see them "when they're grown"
Perhaps in a year or so ? (our way of saying "Hurry back") signed "The Man-age-ment"

“Have just returned from our first holiday staying at Villa Madera. We were made most welcome by hosts Lawrence and Cherrill, and cannot praise the accommodation enough - the wonderful views, the comfortable clean and luxurious rooms, the lovely pool and surroundings, and Lawrence’s knowledge of the island all combined to make an extremely enjoyable experience. In spite of the villa being ideally located for exploring the island, we were so thrilled with our accommodation that we hardly left the villa, and spent most of our holiday relaxing by the pool, and enjoying long, lazy evenings at the poolside lounge.

So looking forward to our next visit.”

Owner's response: You know just sometimes guests take you completely by surprise. 3 lovely (and well travelled) ladies from 3 generations, ALL of whom we will be delighted to welcome back anytime. However the most kind comments left in our visitors book fortunately were not repeated above. After all "ladies" this is a family villa !! Cannot wait for next visit! We feel we will need a good suntan to cover our blushing embarrassment ??

“Sorry Lawrence/Cherrill for delay in getting back to you. Reality sinks in as soon as you’re home.

We all wish to thank you both for your generosity during our stay at Villa Medera. Antoinette would like to especially thank Cherrill for the Birthday cake which went down a treat making her Birthday abroad a really special occasion. We had a fantastic time in your villa. I have to say that we have been to Lanzarote MANY times in last 10 years and your villa is by far the most luxurious, comfortable home abroad we have ever stayed in. Excellent facilities especially pool area and comfortable beds. Keep up the good work.! Cheeky aren’t we?

Many thanks and as per our parting comment “ Hope to see you again quite soon””

Owner's response: All 3 of you were just sooooo laid back !! Severe risk of injury as you fell over.?? The only sound we recall was the chink of glasses (?????) and the zzzzzzzzzz 's of deep sleep. By the way thanks for sharing the Baileys.....often !! "Welcome pack" for your next visit will include 2 bottles ....that will sort out your first day.... Await your confirmation dates for next year. Best wishes L&C

6th September 2009 by M & M, Buckinghamshire (STAYED IN AUGUST 2009)

“We have just returned from our first stay at Villa Madera and I am sure it will not be our last. The photographs you see here show bricks and mortar (and pool), but what they do not convey is the wonderful, friendly home that awaits you. Lawrence and Cherrill will go out of their way to offer advice and suggestions of good ways to pass your time if you can bear to tear yourself away from the tranquil setting of your holiday home. Our most relaxing holiday in years.”

Owner's response: With NO exceptions we have been blessed with the "cream de la cream" of guests over the years but just occassionally we host a family who simply "blows our socks off" and in ways too numerous (and personal !! ) to register here. Please hurry back VM is not the same without you.
( another cake request ? ......no probs!) L&C x

3rd September 2009 by Hewitts (STAYED IN AUGUST 2009)

“The villa is gorgeous, as well as being private & quiet. The various seating/lounge areas outside, gives you different areas to read, or keep cool under the large poolside verandah, or eat at the round table under an umberella or swim, but still all be together. Most of the time there is a gentle breeze as you are in an elevated position approx 2 kilometres from the front/Marina. The double bedrooms are ample in size both with en-suites & the whole place has lots of character. The owners are exceptional and devoted to the place and you enjoying your stay. They are both very helpful, very informative & genuinely nice people. Nothing was too much trouble, the loan of a barbeque, supply of DVD's, good company but also very respectful of our own privacy. We highly recommend it. There is plenty to do and see on the island, it also maintains a lot of character. You won't be bothered by sales peolple touting for business either, it's not touristy/commercial. There are some lovely restaurants, try the La Bodega for a special treat, not far from the villa. You will also need a car throught your stay.”

Owner's response: Cannot recall the last time our visitors just let themselves "go for broke" We had a ball just watching you all enjoy every possible moment. Wonderful company and Abby was pure delight. Hurry back. Lanzarote needs visitors like the Hewitts......so do we! Fabulous !! ..........thank you L&C

“Just had to write about Villa Madera, we have stayed there four times in the last three years, last time January this year for three weeks. The winter sun was was such a treat and the relaxed atmosphere if this beautiful Villa and the amazing hosts Lawrence and Cherrill, we feel like we are going to visit friends. We will be spending January 2010 for some more of that lovely winter sun, we just wished we had time to go more often.”

Owner's response: From the photos of your be-aut-iful home in Florida coupled with the stories of your seemingly non stop "World Wide travels", we can only take the words expressed in your review as offering the greatest possible compliment. Will make sure we are on top form for your next visit from Stateside (by way of Barbados and Spain !!!) in 2010

6th August 2009 by Vicky, West Yorks (STAYED IN JULY 2009)

“The villa is extremely clean, well appointed and tastefully decorated. Both Laurence and Cherrill are great hosts making sure that your stay at the villa is extremley enjoyable. Looking at the pictures before we went to the villa, it looked too good to be true but it was good as it looks on the Web site. The outside lounge that looked over the pool was amazing and where we spent most of our evenings.
We spent a lot of time at the villa because it completly filled our needs. We will be back.”

Owner's response: Although only first time visitors ( in the minority these days)!. We were delighted to meet you both ...We will add here our joint appreciation to Espana Breaks for putting us together.

PS thank you for the lengthy compliments in our visitors book. Fortunately our tan hides our blushes

“Since our first visit back in 2005 we have been back 6 times - we love the peace and think Villa Madera is top drawer - fantastic location, truly unique villa with so much to make your stay happy, carefree and wonderful. Wonderful hosts - they put so much care and attention into the villa - you only have to turn up, relax and have a wonderful holiday.”

Owner's response: No greater compliment than an offer to visit your home when in UK. So far only TWO visit by us to Eastbourne........stand by!!?? L&C for "the Management"

28th July 2009 by Elaine, Manchester (STAYED IN JUNE 2009)

“The villa is perfect for anyone wanting a 5 star holiday at much less than 4 star prices. Everything about the accomodation is superb, from the gorgeous en suite bedrooms with very large (and comfy beds) to the superb outside "living" area, sun terrace and views. If you want a peaceful break with all mod cons to hand, then Villa Madera is a must.

The hosts Lawrence and Cherrill are expert at being there when you need them, but also great at disappearing when you want some peace and privacy.

Every year the villa has been upgraded to add some other feature to make our stay more comfortable than the last - we cant recommend the villa enough. (Just please make sure you don't book up the villa completely as we want to come back!)”

Owner's response: Fair to point out that like so many others you and Rob now regarded as close personal friends

27th July 2009 by Louise, Suffolk (STAYED IN JUNE 2009)

“We have stayed at Villa Madera several times in recent years and couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Lanzarote. Every visit has yet more incredible comforts due to the constant attention to detail by the owners. We spotted this villa in Espana Breaks and it proved to be our best holiday decision ever”

Owner's response: Thank you Louise your family always a delight and always welcome.....again "The Management"
