Velez Blanco is a sophisticated village; Spanish people from Madrid, Barcelona and other areas holiday here they know the best places. We adore this village and the neighbours are very friendly. Great local area for mountain biking, hiking or just strolling. The village has two main fiestas, a medieval one in July and end of season one in August – great fun.
There are about 13 bars and restaurants, varying from cheap and tasty to Michelin Star, my favourites are Maison Antonia, 2 minutes; Maison Molinos, 2 minutes and Bar Sociodad, 5 minutes – excellent tapas; but actually, they are all good. Menu d’el dia will cost about 8 Euros with drink – and I’ve never been asked to leave anywhere, regardless of time.
My favourite beach is San Juan de los Terreros, but Mojaca is also good. Granada is about an hour’s drive.

“We stayed here last September and can thoroughly recommend this property. The village is absolutely lovely with very friendly locals, who will help you if they can. We loved the Bar Sociadad and enjoyed the ‘menu d’el dia’ – menu of the day. The tapas is excellent, could eat that all the time. Had a beautiful steak at Maison Molinos – a couple of minutes to walk. And also Maison Antonia. The furthest we walked to anywhere to eat was 5-7 minutes. The walk back to the apartment is very leisurely found a couple of different ways to get back. I have asthma and found the walk to and from the apartment easy going as long as you take it gently. There is no need to rush its lovely looking around. The views are fantastic. Will be coming back during one of the fiestas. The apartment is of a very high standard no complaints at all. Will need a car if you want to get out and about but the parking is near the castle and then a 2 minute walk to the apartment.”

“Had the pleasure of staying in this newly-renovated property twice last year and can thoroughly recommend it. It's off the beaten tourist track (though not hard to find) but this rewards you with spectacular views and a genuine unspoiled Spanish town full of culture and history. The property is directly beneath an impressive castle and the view from the terrace is simply enormous. All the facilities of the apartment are on one level and everything is of a very high standard. You'll need a car but you can park nearby (by the castle) which means you don't have to go through the town to get in and out, and you can explore the area and get to the coast easily. There's plenty to do within walking distance though, lots of great bars and places to eat, plus walks in the surrounding high-altitude countryside. A real find of a place.”
