About Denia, Costa Blanca
The historic town of Denia offers a somewhat quieter holiday than some of the nearby resorts. There are many beautiful buildings to be seen including the castle that sits high above the town itself and the old quarter near the fishing port.
The town has a couple of beaches, so whether you fancy snorkelling off the rocks, or lazing in the sun, the choice is there. For the more active, ferry trips to the Balearics are available and of course you can always hire a car and discover the wonderful coastline.
Owner's Tips...
Denia has almost twenty kilometers of coastline. To the north of the town, there are beaches of fine sand and shallow waters such as Les Marines, L'Almadrava, Les Deveses, Les Bovetes and els Palmars. To the south lie a series of small coves along the rocky coast, known as Les Rotes, which is a paradise for fishermen and divers. The Montgo Mountain, shared by Denia and Javea, is the major landmark of the area.
Within walking distance you can find most types of food. If you like to prepare your own food you must visit Denia indoor market and also the fresh fish market on the front.
There are many places to go & things to do in Denia! Among the monuments in the town, we would recommend a visit to the 18th - century church of the Asuncion; the 17th - century Atarazanas (dockyards); the cloister and church of San Antonio and the 18th - century, neoclassical town hall building. Outside the town we can suggest the so-called hermitages of the conquest - Santa Joan (gothic), Santa Paula and Santa Lucia (gothic), constructed in the 14th and 15th centuries, and also the Torre del Gerro (17th C.) located on the cliff next to the cape of San Antonio.
Oliva Nova golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros and La Sella are both within a short drive. La Sella Golf Club is an 18-hole course, par 72, and 6072 metres in length, surrounded by an ecosystem of Mediterranean woodlands and mountains situated next to Montgo Natural Park. Due to its unique design, La Sella Golf Club offers a balanced course, suitable for all levels of play. The varied and interesting course is set in a protected environment, displaying beautiful views of the countryside, where many varieties of trees may be observed from each fairway. The relaxed atmosphere, together with the Mediterranean climate allows outdoor sports and activities to be enjoyed all year round. There is easy access to all amenities with the beautiful beaches of Denia just 7 kilometres away.
La Sella has ideal conditions in which to feel totally relaxed are of paramount importance to the club and have therefore created a trouble free environment. The design and maintenance of a great golf course is as important to the club, as it is to all its guests, allowing maximum enjoyment of the sport. The modern and friendly social club, which has a restaurant and cafeteria, has everything necessary to make each visit something
Make your way up to the castle and visit the Archaeological Museum. The exhibits will take you on a journey through the past, from the 2nd century B.C. to the 18th century of our era. The Ethnological Museum in town provides an interesting showcase highlighting Denia's traditional crops, particularly the production of raisins. If you feel strong enough, conquer the peak of Montgo (about 5 hours in all), you'll find it hard to forget the panoramic view from the top. On a clear day you can see the island of Ibiza. Windsurfers should head straight for the end of Las Marinas, an area held in high esteem by their kin. If it's nightlife you want, there's an incredible array of cafes, pubs, discos and nightspots in the Las Marinas district.
There is a direct fast ferry service to Ibiza that takes just 2 hours.
With great weather, easy access from both Alicante and Valencia airports, a host of things to see and do, not to mention the food, this really is a superb destination for your holiday.
Denia is readily accessible from both Alicante airport - ALC and Valencia airport - VLC
Both airports are about 95km (60 miles) - about an hour's drive - from the house.
