About Casa Diego, Las Virtudes
Our spacious villa is set in an idyllic rural location, in the heart of the Vinalopo valley, surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. Only 35 minutes from Alicante airport, the bustling town of Villena is only a few minutes drive - with all amenities including supermarkets, shops and many traditional Spanish bars and restaurants. Relax by our private pool, or enjoy a meal or barbecue al fresco - our comfortable villa is well equipped to provide the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area. Our villa appeals to families and friends who want to experience a taste of the real Spain and escape to mountains, castles, bodegas, villages, walks, cycling and peace.
The villa is private and tranquil, with 5 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a lounge/diner and a large kitchen and utility room, with all mod cons. There is plenty of surrounding ground and a shaded patio for al fresco dining, or under the cool shade of the large tree near the pool. Facilities include a dishwasher, cooker, hob, large fridge/freezer, microwave, large table comfortably seating 10, open fire barbecue, outdoor barbecues, washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board,lounge with large TV and DVD player, stove fire and heaters (low season).
Outside patio with two tables for dining al fresco. Very suitable for children, lockable gated pool and whole residence is gated. Also very suitable for those not wanting stairs/iinclines etc. Swings, games, books, pool table, bikes at villa.

Owner's Tips
The villa is an ideal place for walking, cycling, golfing or simply relaxing by the pool and enjoying the tranquility, savouring the ambience of a truly Spanish holiday. However it also provides a comfortable and ideal base from which you can explore the surrounding area. The historic cities of Valencia, Murcia and Madrid make fantastic day trips, as well as some secluded sandy beaches being within easy driving distance.
In the centre of Las Virtudes, the village where the villa is situated, is a splendid church steeped in history. The area itself has much Moorish influence and every town in the area, including Villena, has its own castle, surrounded by narrow streets and whitewashed houses. Very suitable for children, lockable gated pool and whole residence is gated. Swings, games, books, pool table, bikes for all ages all at villa. Lots of surrounding ground for playing.
Distances: 35 minutes' drive from Alicante beaches. Nearest full golf course is 20 minutes' drive away, 9 hole course 5-10 minutes drive. At least four other golf courses approx 45 minutes drive away. Nearest airport is Alicante approx. 35 minutes' easy drive on the main Madrid road. Also Valencia airport, 1 hour 10 minutes and Murcia airport, 1 hour 15 minutes. We would strongly recommend car hire. Nearest town is Villena approx. 5 minutes drive away, with banks, restaurants, boutiques, supermarkets, pharmacies and hospital and local bodegas. Local markets well worth a visit (details in villa).
Historic cities of Valencia and Murcia approx. 1 hour's drive away. For entertaining the children, the parks of Benidorm (water and theme parks) are about 50 minutes' drive away (easy motorway driving). There are a couple of local bodegas selling their own produced wine at extremely good prices. There are many restaurants in the town - it is often easier to find them on foot as they can be tucked away! In the old part of the town of Villena stands the 'Castillo (castle) de Atalaya' with impressive views of the surrounding area of the Vinalopo valley flanked by mountains. There are two Gothic churches and the 'treasure of Villena' dating from the Bronze Age can be found in the Museum. The church of the patroness of the town, our Lady of the Virtues, is near the villa in Las Virtudes. There are some splendid walks in the area, particularly in the nearby town of Banyeres de Mariola. The town of Biar, with its castle, old square and some charming restaurants, is well worth a visit (15 minutes drive). The whole area is very popular with cyclists with some good routes (all details of the above in file in the villa). Close to home, the village (15 minutes walk) has a restaurant, bar and cafes, and shop; there is a go-kart track a few minutes drive away (fun for both adults and kids)

“The villa was lovely and spacious. Our large party was able to gather together around the kitchen table, on the terrace and around the pool, but there were also shady areas for some 'me' time. We loved the tranquility of the villa. We used the bikes to cycle on the track to Las Virtudes- wonderful tapas there. We also enjoyed cycling to Villena, but needed the car for all our shopping! Highlights were the beautiful city of Valencia and eating heavenly tapas in the restaurant in the old square in Biar. It was a great base for relaxing by the pool and for visiting 'real Spain'.”

“Casa Diego is a lovely villa set in dramatic countryside close to the pretty village of Las Virtudes and the bustling town of Villena and is the perfect place for a holiday in real Spain. We enjoyed our holiday so much that we have stayed there several times since our first visit. The accommodation is very comfortable and spacious inside and out - the kitchen in particular is large and very well equipped. It's the ideal place to relax because of the lovely pool and all the extras provided by the owner: bikes, games, toys, DVDs, books, maps ... It's also an ideal base for walking, cycling and sightseeing (shaded parking so the car never gets too hot).
Highlights of our holiday include al fresco breakfasts on the lovely shaded patio, sunbathing on loungers round the pool, grabbing a bargain at the local Saturday morning market in Elda, cooling off in the pool after a day's sightseeing in Valencia (a must-see city an hour away), floating the afternoon away in the thermal springs of the Roman spa at Fortuna (also an hour away), swimming in the sea at El Campello (40 mins' away) evenings of tapas and wine in Las Virtudes (only 20 minutes' walk)... I could go on and on! Owner very helpful - I'd recommend Casa Diego for a great holiday for families, couples and friends.”

“We stayed at the villa, the second week in September 2009, and it was hot all week.
It took us 50 mins to get to the villa from the airport in a mini bus, hired. (I would recommend them, (English speaking driver) Autocares -phone 0034966791617
The villa is set just back off a country road, very quiet and peaceful. It’s a beautiful villa with masses of space in every room. Every bedroom was large with mosquito nets at the windows, and nicely furnished. The kitchen was huge and well stocked with pots/pans etc – a large fridge freezer and lots of work top space – ideal for large parties or families. In the lounge there was lots of board games and loads of books to read. We could only get Spanish TV but that didn’t bother us at all as we were in the pool most of the time. The outside space at the villa was great with lots of different areas to sit, along with a veranda which was also a great space overlooking the pool. There were bikes to use, which we did almost every day. The actual walk into Villena took us one hour each way, and a 20 mins walk each way into Las Virtudes. Villena was a large town with lots of shops/restaurants/train station. Las Virtudes was my favourite, being a small Spanish village, one shop/restaurant (with a great atmosphere), one café and one pub. It also had a nice park for children. It was a really laid back, friendly place. If you want a taste of the real Spain then this is the place to stay. A villa with loads of space

“we had a great holiday in the villa. the villa is spacious and has all of the requirements that you need. the only problem we had was the lack of air conditioning which affected us a lot given that there was a heat wave in spain the week we were there. the villa offers excellent value for money and the village of Las virtudes is a lovely place to visit.”
