Just a few minute's drive is the village of Hondon de las Nieves. It is not a large village, but it has all that most people need during their stay. Supermarkets, street and covered markets offering fresh vegetables, fish, bread, olives etc. There is a bread shop, butchers, fruit and vegetable shops, a handful of restaurants and bars all offering typical local dishes, all at reasonable prices.
You will also find a doctor surgery, chemist, police station, petrol station, hardware store and three 'bodegas', wine stores where you can purchase local and regional wines. One of the bodegas is also a small museum and has restaurant facilities. There is a sports center with playing fields and a public pool. There is also a very pleasant restaurant that specializes in sea food, and offers a great paella.
The journey to the house from Alicante airport takes approximately 30 minutes and is an easy drive (written directions and map available) . The city of Elche is a 20 minute drive. An interesting city with a Moorish history and a beautiful central park and palm gardens. Santa Pola is just 12 kilometers from Elche heading East, where there are many sandy beaches and the fish and seafood restaurants are noted for the quality of food. Santa Pola has a harbor, fishing boats go out daily.
Most of our guests have enjoyed the house, outside areas and the local village, and not ventured too far, but if you fancy a day on the beach, it is not out of the question. If you leave the house at 'nine', there is no reason why you shouldn't be on the sandy beaches at Santa Pola by 'ten' and you can spend a full day enjoying the benefits of the sea.

“We had a fantastic holiday here. The kids loved the pool and us adults found the outside kitchen wonderful as a cold beer was always to hand without leaving the kids unattended. It is nice and peaceful an the accommodation great.”

“It is a lovely place to have a family holiday-the pool is well placed so everything feels connected, and is a good size and one end deep enough to safely jump into. the views are lovely and the accommadation clean and comfortable.
the villa is in the countryside and not overlooked, but also close enough to a small town which has plenty of bars and cafes and food supplies.also the bigger cities-Elche and Alicante are well within day trip distance-just 30-40min drive to Elche. Can't say i recommend the beaches, but didn't have time to explore-all seemed very crowded-saying that the sea by the beach in the middle of Alicante looked amazing-azure.
If you are arriving late on sat you will need to make sure you have enough supplies for sunday,as the local shops are closed.
Steven, the owner, is very helpful, and helped us with any difficulties(our hire car broke down on arrival!)”

“This is a superb holiday villa situated in spacious grounds in a rural setting near the village of Hondon de las Nieves (Nr Alicante). The house is situated some distance from the main road along a dirt track making a hire car essential for getting about. Aside from the house the main feature is a large swimming pool (absolutely essential during heat waves) with a poolside kitchen giving shade during the day and a place for Barbeques in the evening. The interior of the house is cleverly arranged with an open plan design with rooms set at different levels. Main features are the luxury kitchen and spacious bathroom. Although two bathrooms are advertised one is situated outside the house and was not used by my family. The main bedrooms were disappointing being small and retain the heat of the day into the evening. That said the views from the bedroom windows of the distant mountain range is impressive. A third large bed room is on the ground floor and has a sofa bed for two additional guests. The owner Steven Nuttall is extremely friendly and helpful and quick to respond to emergences involving water or electricity and a wasps nest.
Overall, we had a great holiday at the mountainside farmhouse and would definitely stay there again.”
