About Playa Verde Penthouse

This is a luxury penthouse apartment in unspoilt surroundings and with stunning sea views. The property sleeps 6 in 3 double bedrooms, and there are 2 bathrooms, one is en-suite to the main bedroom. There is an extremely large terrace with jacuzzi and BBQ, with both covered and uncovered areas and with a good range of terrace furniture and flower beds. One bed even incorporates a lemon tree! The front of the terrace offers spectacular beach and sea views, while the rear of the terrace looks over beautiful and peaceful protected wetlands with a variety of native and migrant birdlife. The best sunsets can be seen from this side.

Because the apartment is our second home you will find it exceptionally well equipped. The kitchen has microwave, dishwasher, oven, hob , toaster, kettle etc and in the utility room there is a washing machine, iron and ironing board. There is a good supply of crockery, cutlery and pans.

For your comfort the apartment is provided with air-conditioning and central heating. Two of the bedrooms open out on to the terrace and the main bedroom has a king-sized bed.

The living room is a large area with 2 large settees and patio doors opening on to the terrace. There is satellite TV, DVD and a supply of DVDs, books and games. In addition there is a large, separate dining room with superb sea views.

Linen and towels are included, as is cleaning at the beginning and end of your stay.

The development offers paddle tennis courts and two swimming pools, all set in a landscaped garden area. Private car-parking is available underneath the building. There are lifts up to the apartment, which is on the fifth floor.

The beach is about 100m away, and it is an easy walk to bars, restaurants, shops and an attractive Marina. The beach is safe for bathing due to a gently sloping ocean bed, and is warm from about May to the end of October. A top-notch golf course is a five minute drive away, and there are a further 6 or 7 within easy driving distance.

Isla Canela itself is an exclusive resort in the mouth of the Guadiana river, separating Spain from Portugal. It is 5km from the pretty Andalucian town of Ayamonte, with palm-fringed squares, cobbled streets and ancient buildings.

About Isla Canela, Costa de la Luz

Sitting neatly in the southwestern corner of the Huelva province is Isla Canela. This is one of the most popular resorts along this stretch of coastline, both with English and Spanish holidaymakers. Whilst it can be busy, it’s not to be compared with some of the other livelier resorts.

The local fishermen are in the waters daily catching tuna and sardines, which by the end of the day are served in many of the waterfront restaurants. However before indulging in some culinary delights, you may wish to relax on the wide, sandy beach and watch the world go by. Alternatively there are golf courses in the area if you choose to improve your handicap.

Owner's Tips

The resort of Isla Canela is surrounded by a number of typical Spanish and Portuguese white towns, which punctuate the coast from Faro in Portugal to Cadiz in Spain. If you take the Columbus tour from Isla Canela Tours in the Marina, you will visit the pretty white town of El Rocio, site of the annual pilgrimage from Seville to honour the Virgin of the Rocks.

In Ayamonte you can explore the little streets and boutiques, or visit the numerous churches and other historic buildings. My own favourite is the Palace of the Marquis (now the town hall) in Laguna Square, which is also a charming place to sit and take coffee and watch the world. There are a great many excellent restaurants in Ayamonte - try Noosh, a Lebanese restaurant, for a change. Also from Ayamonte you can take the 10 minute ferry to Portugal, where you can stock up on inexpensive linens in Vila Real da Santo Antonio just across the river.

In the Marina you will also find some good restaurants. My favourite bar for a quiet drink is Bar Neptuno. To eat, the Chiringuito Antonio V is typically Spanish, while Sugar Reef and Bella Napoli offer a little variety.

There's also a good range of beach bars; probably the best for food is La Sonrisa, behind the Playa Marina Hotel.

Walking distance from the apartment is the little fishing village of Punta del Moral, where you can find excellent tapas and some great fish dishes while you watch the fishermen unloading their catch. Or take the ferry across from Isla Canela Marina to the resort of Isla Cristina.

If you fancy a bit of culture you can take a tour to beautiful and historic Seville, or alternatively, a boat ride up the Guadiana River.

For golfers there is a par 72 18 hole course five minutes away by car. In addition there are 6 or 7 other great courses all well within an hour's drive.

Holiday reviews of Playa Verde Penthouse

Playa Verde Penthouse scored 5.0 out of 5 from 5 reviews...

16th May 2011 by Natalie (STAYED IN APRIL 2011)

“This is a stunning apartment is so spacious and very well equipped. I have never stayed in self catering accommodation which has everything to hand that I have at home. The pool was not open at the time of our stay (out of season) but the enormous terrace and the jacuzzi more than made up for that. We really didn't need to leave the property, as everything was there for us, including a BBQ, hotplate, outside dining table and chairs, loungers and even kids toys. And one last thing......the view is to die for. We will definitely be returning.”

“Hi Pauline,

Just back from a brilliant stay at your apartment, we took a chance booking on the basis of the pictures and a few reviews we had read.We have been lucky booking over the internet before and we were lucky again with this booking. We thought the apartment was brilliant, the views from the massive terrace were even better than we expected, the apartment itself was just as described
the resort itself was lovely with nice restaurantes and no mad traffic problems that you get in most of spain. We found Bart ( the local agent ) very helpful and he gave us some useful info on the area. With regards to restaurantes Simones in the nearby village was excellent we had Sea Bass
Lubina in Spanish but for some reason the translation on the menu was Haddock - a large very fresh fish for the two of us came to only 13 euro in total, we enjoyed Minuteros and the Tapas Bar in the Marina with the Barrels outside cant remember the name.We loved Ayamonte a nice small spanish town nearby but did not like Huelva we could not get parked so came back again but the town did not look appealing .We liked your apartment and area so much we hope to return in October - we would happily recommend your apartment to anyone.
Thanks again for the nice stay and the beer in the fridge and wine you left was a nice surprise .
Chris and Margaret April 2011”

“We're just back from spending a very enjoyable half-term break in this lovely apartment. We've stayed in Isla Canela before in what we considered to be top notch penthouses but this apartment is a class above.
As a party of 5 (including a demanding 6yr old and one set of granparents) we found the apartment to be extremely spacious and well equiped and as for the outside space, well what can I say? Huge with views to die for no matter which way you look. My daughter particularily liked the view afforded by sitting in the hot tub looking towards Portugal just before sunset and I have to say I don't disagree with her!
The resort is fantastic and if you have any youngsters or oldies everything is as flat as a pancake, with no inclines of any sort to be seen, so walking anywhere is as easy as abc.
Our favourite restaurants were Minuteros (1st one you come to on the right as you walk into the marina) and Simone's (on the left as you enter Punta De Moral) and a trip to Ayemonte is a must for delicious, cheap tapas.
Ayemonte itself is well worth a visit for the zoo, the squares and the lovely old church and the air-conditioned bus will take you there and back for a euro each way. It's worth noting that even the bus drivers take siestas over there so if you miss, or don't wish to catch, the last bus in the afternoon then a taxi back to the apartment will only set you back 9 euros.
We made it to the beach every day and the water was still warm enough to swim in which it most certainly wasn't when we went in April of this year which was a real bonus.
We'll most definitely be coming back to this apartment and resort in 2011 and we're all checking our diaries as I write.
Thanks to Pauline for letting us stay in her beautiful home”

23rd September 2010 by Heather, Nottingham (STAYED IN AUGUST 2010)

“We stayed in this apartment for a week in August. It is amazing! There were 5 of us in our party including two 17year olds. We spent a lot of time on the HUGE terrace sunbathing, dipping in and out of the cool jacuzzi and admiring the views. We all love swimming and the pool was great, very clean and not busy. We ate out at quite a few local restaurants and were very impressed. The teenagers joined in the pool games at the Iberostar hotel and my sister and I did a Spanish lesson at another hotel. The only complaint we had was that we felt that there should have been enough sunloungers for the number of guests and I wrote to the owner about this when we returned.”

Owner's response: Just to show we do listen to our guests, there will most definitely be SIX sunloungers by next spring! There were originally that number but unfortunately some had got broken. Also, for anyone staying in cooler weather, the jacuzzi does have a heater if you really need it!
