This large house has been carefully renovated, respecting its original architecture and traditional features. It has attractive beamed ceilings, thick walls and Moorish archways. The house is far larger inside than its external appearance suggests, and can be viewed in a virtual tour by following the link from our own website. The house rambles over four floors and the rooms are large and airy, cool in the summer, with a wood-burning stove to take the chill off the cold mountain evenings in winter.
There is a private patio for dining al fresco, and the spacious split level roof terrace enjoys views of the surrounding hillsides and the town's imposing fifteenth century church. The house is situated in a delightfully quiet street in the oldest part of historic Alhama, yet the main square, with its shops, bars and restaurants, is a gentle stroll away.
Alhama de Granada is built on the edge of a gorge (El Tajo), and is described by the Rough Guide to Andalucia as ‘one of the unsung gems of Granada province’. It is the perfect location for anyone wishing to experience life in a traditional Spanish town whilst exploring the fantastic countryside around – the Tajo, the Sierra de Loja, Lake Bermejales. The hot springs, used since Roman times, are just outside town. The owners used to live in Alhama, and meet and greet is done by an English friend who is lucky enough to still live there.
Prices include bed linen and towels (except beach towels) and a small welcome pack (tea, coffee, milk, juice, biscuits, butter and bread). Extra shopping can be arranged if required.

Alhama’s main square, with its shops, bars and restaurants, is only a short walk away. Check out Seguriya for a special meal out, or Bar Ochoa for great tapas and atmosphere. There are hot springs, used since Roman times, just outside town. The eastern edge of the town is built overlooking the gorge (El Tajo), and various stunning walks through the gorge are well-signposted. In summer, you can walk its length to reach the splendid swimming pool at hotel Pato Loco. This is open to non-residents and is very quiet, especially on weekday afternoons. Lake Bermejales (15k) offers fresh water swimming and mountain scenery.
Granada, and the Alhambra, are an hour's drive.
About us
We moved to Alhama in 2005, but unfortunately things didn't work out, so we are back in the UK. I think we moved to Spain for all the right reasons, but our timing was wrong. Might move back there some day......
What we love about our property
I love the space inside and the flow of the house, and how quiet it is. I love the little patio just off the kitchen. I love the fact that we renovated it with two of the most spiritual, zen-like builders I have ever come across, who felt they had to put themselves into the building almost as a point of faith. I love the age of the house and that we have helped to preserve it for the next generation.
Year we bought the property: 2005

“The villa is very comfortable with lots of accommodation, as it is on 4/5 floors so its good for the legs! Kitchen well equipped, dining area very comfortable, bedrooms well furnished and two bathrooms in excellent shape. We used the downstairs outside living area every day and spent evenings on the roof garden with a glass of wine, enjoying the view, birds and bell tower. The village is small, has all the fruit and vegetable from local farmers, excellent stores (small) with good tapas bars. We understand there is a night club but never visited that. We had a wonderful 12 days, helped by the hospitality and friendliness of the local people.”

“We were very lucky to have found this place online. Our family, 3 adults and 3 children, stayed for 3 weeks in May. There was room to spare. The home is beautifully restored, comfortably furnished, and well equipped. The beds are cofortable and the kitchen has everything you need to put together multiple-course feasts. The owners and caretakers are very kind and go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Alhama de Granada is a great place to stay - take the city tour, hike in the gorge, do the tapas stroll. A great home base if you want to explore Andalucia (by car) and get a feel for rural Spain.”

“We spent 2 ideal weeks based in this beautiful house. The interior is beautifully done out in a modern yet traditional Spanish style. Our hosts met us and showed us around ,offered some help with settling in and told us some valuable information about local, shops, bars and restaurants. They live near by and are available if you need them.Alhama is a beautiful small town surrounded by mountain ranges and olive groves. The gorge or Tajos is one of the most stunning views we have seen.We spent our time walking in the beautiful countryside and relaxing in the town square. We loved it and thoroughly recommend the experience to those who want a taste of real Spain.10 out of 10.We will be back.”

“The property is delightful and situated in a lovely area of the small town of Alhama de Granada. The nearby caretaker was extremely helpful and friendly, offering us good advice on places to visit etc. The property was well equipped with everything we could have asked for and it was lovely and cool to return to in the heat of the day, even in the month of August when we were there. The nearby gorge below the town is stunning and provided numerous walks as well as fishing with handlines bought from a small shop in the town. The townspeople were very friendly and, despite the fact that our Spanish was basic and their English was almost non-existent on the whole, we always managed to eat and drink well! The property is also well situated for striking out to Cordoba and Granada as well as the coast. All in all, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in order to experience the real Spain!”
