All these places have been personally visited by us in our six years here. There is always and up-to-date schedule for trains & buses. Antequera is steeped in history and there are numerous sports & activities available.

The kitchenette is fully equipped with dinner service, saucepans, knives & forks, gas oven & hob (butano/bottled) with current certificate, microwave, fridge/freezer, hand food processor, kettle, cooking utensils, BBQ utensils and washing machine, picnic basket complete with knives, forks etc., two different size cooler bags, for those days out, whether long or short, lilos, beach towels, etc.

The bedroom has a double bed, night tables & lights, chest of drawers with ladies pack. Large 3 door wardrobe also containing, emergency first aid kit, plus extras etc. The bedroom window looks out onto the Castle, shortly to be flood lit. There is also a stand alone fan, oil filled radiator and electric under blanket. 3 piece suite shower room with two large mirrors, hair dryer, curling tonges, hair straighteners, etc. Storage shelves.

About Antequera, Inland Andalucia

Located in the heart of Andalucia, Antequera is an old Architectural Roman Capital town full of interesting sites from Roman/Moorish Castle and Churches to Flamingo Nature Reserve and El Torcal eroded Limestone Formations. It is approx. 45 minutes from Malaga Airport.

This holiday is mainly for those wishing a tranquil holiday, sight seeing and/or beaches. Antequera is 2.500ft above sea level, surrounded by clean fresh air, beautiful mountains and countryside. It still remains a relative unspoilt town.

Owner's Tips

Available for your convenience are the following items, iron + ironing board, outside clothes airer, emergency sewing kit. We also provide you with a 'Pay as you Go' Spanish mobile phone containing useful numbers to enable you to make any restaurant bookings, etc. Please make sure you leave the same sum of money for the next customer, thank you. Internet is available and there is garage parking facility by arrangement at extra charge. We have tried to supply you with as many home comforts as possible, due to the luggage restrictions. If you can think of anything that we have missed please could you write it in our guest comments book.

Antequera is a beautiful town for those who wish to be away from Costa resorts, yet near enough for beaches (aprox. 45 mins). We are within a 40mins to 1 hr. drive from Sevilla with it's beautiful Cathedral and Architectural buildings. Granada for the Alhambra Palaces, Sierra Nevada for skiing, Architecure, shopping. Cordoba with it's famous Mezquita. Malaga with the Picasso Museum, large shopping malls and beach restaurants.

Antequera boasts of many historical buildings and Churches. Golf is also a must as in most places. The Antequera golf has and 18 hole course, & another to be built shortly. Nearby there is a nature reserve, rock climbing, walks & a wolf park. One of our favorite places in Antequera is the Baroque church which has just finished being restored and is absolutely breathtaking. Bicycles have been introduced for use round the town, also car parks on the outskirts.

'The Torcal' mountain range (which you can see from the patio) is made of limestone, and is a national park. On a clear day one can see Africa. There are three different levels of walks that one can take. We did the 2 hour one, and the views and shapes of the stones are incredible. One wonders how they still stay there after such a long time.

In our alphabetical files we have restaurants, covering all price ranges. The 'Menu del dia' (daily meal), consists of a choice of one of 3 starters, 1 of 3 main courses plus dessert and coffee, all this for between 8 & 12 euros per person. Some even throw in a free bottle of wine. People are very friendly here, and will always help, especially if they see that you are trying to speak their language. The daily routine is - opening hours from around 9.00 am -1.30, lunch between 1.30 & 3.00 then siesta time. Shops open again between 5.30 - 6.00 till 9.00 - 9.30 pm. It is a 7 mins walk to Town or you can take our local hourly bus. The Indoor Mkt. is open 8.00 - 2.00 Mon - Sat selling fresh fish brought in daily from Malaga, & fruit and veg. Outdoor Mkt on Tues 9.30 - 2.00. Selling everything from fruit & veg to boots, shoes, table cloths etc.

Shopping on our doorstep - chemist, groceries, for bread, milk, veg & fruit, etc. We keep a guest book, as we like our visitors to write in not only what they find good about the apartment and Antequera, but also of any improvements which they think we can contribute to make your stay more comfortable.

We speak Spanish, and and can help you if needed with the language. help you in any way. We have an excellent hospital which we have used. Please do not forget your E111. For those wishing not to rent a car we can arrange airport collection. Please ask when booking

In May we have our 'Adult Feria' which comprises of livestock, equestrian display by the famous Andalucian horses, food tent with produce from all over Spain, plus a variety bar & tapa tents.
In August we have our 'Major Feria', which comprises of an array of exhbitions of National & South American crafts. Sevillana Dancing, night time live concerts ranging from Flamenco, Copla singing, The Blues and Pop, and a large fun fair. This is a major event in Antequera's calendar & well worth going to.

Meet the owners...

About us
Tom and Francisca moved out to Antequera in 2003. We mainly came like many people because of the weather, we liked the people and their way of living. We as yet have not been dissappointed.
Tom is a retired VAT Officer, and Francisca was a bi-lingual secretary (Spanish-English). Tom is basically English although his grandparents lived a long time in Gibraltar, and he went to school their for four years when he was a child. After leaving Downside he then entered into the Royal Navy, following his father's footsteps. Francisca was born in Peru, and therefore language has not been a problem for us. We were accepted in the Barrio (San Juan) with open arms, being the first foreigners to move here. We definately feel this is home. Our children come out from the UK twice yearly to see us, and Tom goes back once a year. Our eldest daughter got married a year ago here in San Juan, and everyone came out the cheer and throw rice as they left the Church. We now wish we had come out sooner, the education, health system is fantastic. Tom has had two hip replacements before 65, whilst in the UK they wouldn't give him one till he was 70. They believe in quality of life. If we are available to visitors we leave the outer door open, and if not we close it. This is the signal everyone uses. We all help each other out, conviviality is very important. We love it here and would never even contemplate moving away.

What we love about our property
We live in like a small village, we are in Antequera, but not in the town. This means that we have fantastic views all round us of the Torcal Mountain Range and the valley. Our house is in Cuesta Real which means Royal Street. It was the first street to be built outside the Castle walls. At present they are re-making the road to it's original cobbled road and the Spanish old fashioned black street lights. The Castle wall has been extensively renovated, and we hope it will be flood lit by 2010. What we like is that one can mix with people or not as you like. Everyone looks out for one another and help is always at hand when needed. Upstairs on the patio are the best views, as you see the whole barrio, it is absolutely breathtaking. If ever we feel down for any reason we only have to look around us to realize how lucky we are to live here, and in such a beautiful house. We hope this has given you a small insight into our way of life here and will come and visit us sometime, you won't regret it we assure you !!!

Year we bought the property: 2003

“This is an excellent small apartment in a very attractive historic town. The apartment is extemely well-equiped for 2 people. It is very attractively furnished and has a large sunny patio with tremendous views of the Moorish Castle, the village on the outskirts of Antequera and the hills beyond. The owners are very helpful, but not intrusive. i thouroughly recommend this apartment, which I have now stayed in 5 times.”

18th January 2010 by Oonagh & Geoff, Scotland (STAYED IN SEPTEMBER 2009)

“If you are seeking a holiday in a traditional barrio, Los Laureles is for you. Situated in the heart of Antequera, within a short walk of the main shops and fabulous tapas bars, the apartment is very comfortable and the views from the spacious roof terrace are breathtaking. Tom and Francis have thought of everything and are exceptionally helpful and informative. We now consider barrio San Juan a place to restore our bodies and minds and the many people we have met as friends.”
