The beautiful island of Majorca (properly spelt Mallorca) is the biggest of the Balearic Islands and offers a great climate, magnificent beaches as well as inland forests and mountain ranges. The capital Palma offers a unique mix of history, culture and nightlife. Palma Cathedral is probably the most prominent landmark in the city by day; by night the tree lined avenues lead to an array of concerts, bars and restaurants. The island boasts over 550km of coastline and around 80 beaches - staying in a Majorca villa provides the very best way to enjoy everything the island has to offer, although holiday accommodation in Majorca is varied and includes everything from small studio apartments to luxury villas.
Although tourism began as early as the 1920's, the real boom in holidaymakers to the island started in the 60's. Today with so many flight operators offering weekly trips from most UK airports, Majorca has become a highly popular holiday destination. In the year 2000, there were over 8 million visitors to the island, 26% of whom were from the UK.
