The most easterly of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote basks in almost constant sunshine and is very distinct from its sister islands both in landscape and climate. For the more active, there are also some of the best watersports available, notably for windsurfers and divers who will be particularly drawn to Famara. A lively nightlife is on offer in the main resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise, although Lanzarote has a more sedate approach to entertainment and is better suited to families and couples. For those wishing to see the many attractions on the island, Lanzarote car hire is available in all the major resorts.
