Closer to Africa than Europe, the island of Gran Canaria is small enough to drive round in a day and attracts over 2 million visitors every year. Las Palmas is a busy, bustling city with friendly local people who are proud of their island and its surroundings. For lovers of water sports, the resorts area of Maspalomas in the southeastern part of the island is the place to visit.
