Quick guide to Córdoba

In the city of Córdoba, the Mezquita (mosque) is the most breathtaking and it’s one of the world’s masterpieces of Islamic art you are ever likely to see. Entering through the Patio de los Naranjos (Courtyard of the orange trees), the smell of the orange trees entice you in. The patio was enlarged over time to allow the Muslims to perform their ablutions in the basins before commencing with prayers. The interior is complete with colourful, horseshoe arches and pillars of onyx and marble, quite spectacular.

The city is relatively small but has a lot to offer, it has a quieter feel than other cities, with less traffic and not quite so much activity. The Juderia is the old Jewish quarter of Córdoba and it should be explored if there’s time. The patios are filled with flowers and the narrow lanes are full of charm. If you want to learn about one of Andalucia’s sports, then you must visit the Bullfighting Museum that is located in the 16th century building, House of Bulas.
